Thai Fabric Design Contest for the International Market (Cultural Textile Awards 2025)

Context and Rationale

The Thai Fabric Design Contest for the International Market (Cultural Textile Awards 2025) for Extension and Development, held on March 25, 2025, at the Fabric and Textile Creative Design Center (FTCDC) building, is fundamentally rooted in the application of research and innovative design (Research and Innovation). Driven by the core concept "Silhouette of the Past," the competition was divided into three categories: Silk, Cotton, and Creative Textiles. This concept challenged designers to analytically process and apply local cultural heritage wisdom to create textile art that is contemporarily beautiful and practically producible on an industrial scale to meet modern market demands.

Activities and Operations

In the dimension of academic outreach and community engagement (Outreach), the event on March 25, 2025, was open to community weaving groups, independent designers, and students, who attended special lectures by top national guest speakers and designers, including Mr. Au Wicharawit Akkarasantisuk, Asst. Prof. Dr. Rawithep Musikapan, Dr. Kornklot Khumsuk, and Lect. Anothai Singkham, building local capacity. Furthermore, the activity is closely connected to teaching and learning (Teaching), providing students with an Active Learning process to face real-world fashion industry challenges, practice design skills, and prepare as professional designers.

Partnerships

The success of the event held on March 25, 2025, reflects the committed internal stewardship and governance (Stewardship) of Udon Thani Rajabhat University. Asst. Prof. Dr. Kanitsara Thanyasoontornsakul, President, welcomed participants and allocated the FTCDC building—a regional textile design hub—to drive the creative economy alongside the Department of Cultural Promotion. Ms. Siwaporn Chanthakraiwat, Director of the Cultural Heritage Dissemination and Extension Group, presided over the opening ceremony, supported by a network of leading experts.

Outcomes The project aims for outcomes covering 1 dimension, which is:
