"ISAN SOUL: Soft Power" Festival and "#ISAN : Fashion from the soul" Fashion Showcase
Context and Rationale From January 24-26, 2025, at the Fabric and Textile Creative Design Center (FTCDC), Udon Thani Rajabhat University (City Campus), the "ISAN SOUL: Soft Power" festival (Isan Soul Squared) was organized. The foundation of this project is rooted in integrating cultural capital, textile design innovation, and indigenous arts (Research and Innovation). The objective was to elevate textile products from 15 communities by applying knowledge aligned with modern consumer trends and material innovations, while establishing creative spaces under the 5F framework to stimulate the local economy and preserve Isan wisdom.
Activities and Operations Conducted from January 24-26, 2025 (12:00 - 22:00 hrs.), the festival featured key highlights. On January 24, 2025, at the FTCDC central stage, the special fashion showcase #ISAN : Fashion from the soul presented 30 textile fashion outfits developed from cultural capital across 15 communities. Additionally, the event featured 5F creative activities, the #ISAN : Light of the soul - Arts and Crafts Lovers’ market showcasing light, sound, and cultural performances, an arts street and craft market featuring independent artists and creators, and exhibitions by Thai Fine Arts and Product Design students. This initiative connects directly with teaching, learning, and community outreach (Teaching & Outreach) by providing students and local communities with an active platform to showcase their creative works to the public.
Partnerships The success of this creative festival reflects strong internal institutional stewardship (Stewardship) by Udon Thani Rajabhat University through the FTCDC. It also highlights robust regional partnerships (Partnerships) uniting 15 weaving communities, independent artists, creators, and regional stakeholders to collaboratively drive Isan's cultural Soft Power.
Outcomes The project aims for outcomes covering 1 dimension, which is:
- SDG 11 Dimension (Sustainable Cities and Communities): The project (held from January 24-26, 2025) promotes the safeguarding and protection of local cultural heritage by organizing the "ISAN SOUL: Soft Power" festival, craft markets, and the 15-community textile fashion show. By transforming the FTCDC premises into an inclusive urban public cultural space, the initiative sustainably drives the creative economy, preserves local identity, and enhances community well-being.
