UDRU Partners with Udon Thani Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 to Conduct Workshop on Loose Parts Play for Early Childhood Educators

Udon Thani Rajabhat University hosts a 3-day practical workshop on Loose Parts Play learning experiences for early childhood educators at Sam Phrao Campus, with Udon Thani Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 conferring certificates to empower teachers with creative and sustainable early education tools.

Context & Rationale

This early childhood quality education and pedagogical innovation initiative involved conducting the 3-day practical workshop titled "Designing Learning Experiences for Early Childhood through Loose Parts Play." Held from January 24-26, 2025, at the Food Technology Laboratory Building Conference Room, Udon Thani Rajabhat University (Sam Phrao Center), the closing ceremony on January 26 was presided over by Mrs. Chadakorn Banlengrom, Director of Udon Thani Primary Educational Service Area Office 1, who presented completion certificates to participants. The primary rationale of this intervention addresses the imperative to revolutionize early childhood education—the foundational stage for cognitive, social, and emotional development. Upskilling kindergarten teachers to utilize Loose Parts Play serves as a critical strategic enabler to foster creative problem-solving, active learning, and imagination among young learners using accessible, open-ended materials.

Activities & Operations

From January 24-26, 2025, the operational sequence was executed through intensive hands-on workshops, material design laboratories, and practical simulations over three days. Key operational workflows included instructing educators on the theoretical frameworks of Loose Parts Play, guiding teachers to design play environments using natural and upcycled local materials, facilitating group demonstrations and reflective learning sessions, and conferring official completion certificates to validate teachers' capacity to implement creative play-based learning in their respective classrooms.

Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships

The successful execution of this early childhood educational enhancement program was built on a strong inter-institutional alliance. Spearheaded by Udon Thani Rajabhat University, the project partnered directly with the Udon Thani Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 (PESAO 1), collaborating with kindergarten teachers, school directors, and educational personnel across primary schools in Udon Thani Province.

Project Outputs

As a direct outcome of these strategic operations, 1 3-day practical teacher-training workshop on Loose Parts Play was successfully delivered, certifying early childhood educators in creative pedagogical design. Furthermore, the initiative generated open-ended play design frameworks for kindergarten classrooms and established an active network of innovative early childhood educators in the region.

Outcomes

The project aims for comprehensive outcomes across the sustainable development dimension:

SDG 4 (Quality Education): Ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care, and pre-primary education (Target 4.2), and substantially increase the supply of qualified teachers through training (Target 4.c). Empowering early childhood educators with Loose Parts Play methodologies transforms pre-primary learning environments, enhances child development, and strengthens long-term educational foundations across local communities.
