The primary rationale of this intervention addresses the critical imperative to safeguard, revitalize, and promote intangible cultural heritage, transforming urban public spaces into vibrant cultural hubs that enhance community well-being and local tourism.
Activities & Operations
On Saturday, January 4, 2025, the operational sequence was executed through an open-air public performance festival at the heart of the city's walking street. Key operational workflows included inaugurating the official folk arts showcase, delivering diverse traditional Isan performing arts programs for citizens and holiday visitors, facilitating public engagement with local folk artisans, and reinforcing multi-agency partnerships between local government units, cultural offices, tourism authorities, and academic institutions to foster an inclusive cultural ecosystem.
Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships
The successful execution of this cultural promotion initiative was built on a robust multi-sectoral partnership. Spearheaded by the Udon Thani Provincial Office, the Udon Thani Provincial Cultural Council, the Udon Thani Provincial Cultural Office, Udon Thani City Municipality, and TAT Udon Thani Office, the event collaborated directly with the Institute of Fine Arts and Culture at Udon Thani Rajabhat University and local folk performance networks.
Project Outputs
As a direct outcome of these strategic operations, 1 major public folk performing arts festival was successfully conducted during the New Year holiday season, engaging numerous local residents and tourists. Furthermore, the initiative transformed urban public space into a dynamic creative cultural site and strengthened the regional collaborative network dedicated to safeguarding local intangible cultural heritage.
Outcomes
The project aims for comprehensive outcomes across the sustainable development dimension:
SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage (Target 11.4) while providing universal access to safe and inclusive public spaces (Target 11.7). Utilizing public urban spaces for folk arts showcases preserves regional identity, fosters civic pride, enriches community life, and drives sustainable cultural tourism in Udon Thani.
