Public Health Program, UDRU Partners with M-Friends Foundation to Enhance STI Prevention, Safe Sex, and Reproductive Rights Awareness Among Students
The Public Health Program at Udon Thani Rajabhat University collaborates with M-Friends Foundation Udon Thani to train public health and occupational health students on STI prevention, safe condom usage, PrEP/PEP, bodily autonomy, and unintended pregnancy prevention.
Context & Rationale
This health education and youth empowerment initiative centered on the "STI and Unintended Pregnancy Prevention Workshop for University Students," conducted on July 8, 2025, at Udon Thani Rajabhat University. The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Rungrudee Srisam-ang, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science, featuring Mr. Chatchapong Chasiho, Director of M-Friends Foundation Udon Thani, as the keynote expert. The primary rationale of this initiative is to enhance sexual health literacy, gender equality, and reproductive healthcare awareness among higher education students. By delivering accurate sexual health education, advocating for bodily autonomy, promoting STI/HIV/Syphilis prevention, and preventing unintended pregnancies, the project empowers public health students to practice safe personal healthcare and act as future health champions in their communities.
Activities & Operations
On July 8, 2025, an intensive workshop was delivered to students from the Bachelor of Public Health and Bachelor of Science (Occupational Health and Safety) programs. Key operational activities encompassed lectures on sexual health and reproductive rights, practical demonstrations on proper condom usage, and in-depth instruction on modern HIV prevention protocols, including Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP). Furthermore, interactive discussion sessions addressed adolescent pregnancy prevention, bodily autonomy, and accessible, non-stigmatized healthcare services.
Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships
The successful implementation of this sexual health campaign was anchored in a synergistic collaboration between higher education and a local non-governmental organization (NGO). The academic core was led by the Public Health Program, Faculty of Science, Udon Thani Rajabhat University (represented by Associate Dean Dr. Rungrudee Srisam-ang), working in direct partnership with the M-Friends Foundation Udon Thani (led by Executive Director Mr. Chatchapong Chasiho), a specialized civil society organization dedicated to sexual rights advocacy, LGBTQ+ wellness, and STI prevention in Udon Thani Province.
Project Outputs
As a direct outcome of these joint operations, public health and occupational health students gained verified competencies in sexual health literacy, STI prevention, gender equality concepts, and family planning. Moreover, participants acquired practical skills in correct condom usage and technical knowledge regarding PrEP/PEP administration. Ultimately, the program created a network of peer health advocates equipped to disseminate reproductive health knowledge and gender inclusion principles across campus and local communities.
Outcomes
The project aims for comprehensive outcomes across 4 key dimensions:
- SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being): Contributes to ending the epidemic of AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (Target 3.3) and ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive healthcare services and education (Target 3.7) through condom advocacy, PrEP/PEP awareness, and unintended pregnancy prevention.
- SDG 5 (Gender Equality): Guarantees universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (Target 5.6) while promoting bodily autonomy and gender diversity inclusion (LGBTQ+) through partnerships with civil society advocacy groups.
- SDG 4 (Quality Education): Enhances educational quality by embedding essential life skills, comprehensive sexuality education, and health literacy into student development programs for future public health professionals.
- SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Demonstrates an effective multi-stakeholder partnership bridging a regional university (UDRU) and a civil society organization (M-Friends Foundation Udon Thani) to collaboratively tackle local public health and social equality challenges.
