Phuan Kaleu Community Product Shop and Thai Phuan Textile Wisdom Learning Center Handover Ceremony
Context and Rationale On January 13, 2025, Udon Thani Rajabhat University, through the Isan Textile Museum and the Fabric and Textile Creative Design Center (FTCDC), initiated the establishment and handover of the "Phuan Kaleu" Community Product Shop and the Thai Phuan Textile Wisdom Learning Center at the Thai Phuan Ban Phue Museum. The foundation of this project is rooted in integrating cultural research, knowledge compilation, and local wisdom preservation (Research and Innovation). The objective was to systematically organize the traditional knowledge of the Thai Phuan people and develop the site into a prominent learning hub and cultural tourism destination along the Phu Phra Bat World Heritage route.
Activities and Operations Conducted on January 13, 2025, the official handover ceremony celebrated the successful development of the Phuan Kaleu shop and the learning center. Previously, FTCDC and the Isan Textile Museum actively engaged with the community to compile and curate Thai Phuan traditional knowledge. This initiative connects directly with teaching, learning, and community outreach (Teaching & Outreach) by transforming the museum area into an educational resource for students and tourists, while simultaneously boosting local economic circulation through the community handicraft product shop.
Partnerships The success of this establishment reflects internal institutional stewardship (Stewardship) by Udon Thani Rajabhat University, led by Vice Presidents Dr. Wiboon Pensook and Asst. Prof. Dr. Teerayut Pengchai (Chairman of FTCDC), along with Assoc. Prof. Nawa Wongphrom, Head of the Isan Textile Museum. It also highlights robust local partnerships (Partnerships) uniting the Ban Phue Community Development Office and the Thai Phuan Ban Phue community group to collaboratively preserve cultural identity and drive the creative economy effectively.
Outcomes The project aims for outcomes covering 1 dimension, which is:
- SDG 11 Dimension (Sustainable Cities and Communities): The project (with the handover ceremony held on January 13, 2025) promotes the safeguarding and protection of national cultural heritage by establishing the Thai Phuan Textile Wisdom Learning Center and Museum. Linked to the Phu Phra Bat World Heritage route, the initiative strengthens the Thai Phuan community, preserves local identity, and fosters sustainable cultural tourism.
