UDRU and NSTRU Co-Host Northeastern Site Visit for Rajabhat University Network to Scale Appropriate Technology and Tackle Household Debt
Udon Thani Rajabhat University, in collaboration with Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University and PMU-A, hosts a regional site visit to evaluate area-based research and scale appropriate technologies aimed at elevating the grassroots economy and resolving household debt.
Context & Rationale
This research and development initiative centered on the Northeastern Regional Site Visit, part of the broader research project titled "Management for Scaling up Appropriate Technology Research of the Rajabhat University Network to Elevate the Grassroots Economy and Solve Household Debt." Held from April 21 to 22, 2025, at the Language and Computer Center, Udon Thani Rajabhat University (UDRU), the opening ceremony was presided over by Vice President Asst. Prof. Dr. Chartchai Muangpathom. The primary rationale of this initiative is to monitor, evaluate, and share insights on area-based research operations. The project aims to practically scale up "Appropriate Technology" to elevate the grassroots economy, generate sustainable income, and concretely resolve the pressing issue of household debt within local communities.
Activities & Operations
From April 21 to 22, 2025, operations included formal research presentation and evaluation meetings at UDRU, coupled with active field operations (Site Visits) in Nong Han and Kut Chap districts of Udon Thani province. This regional event served as a critical platform to present the progress of 8 area-based research projects conducted by 4 Rajabhat Universities in the Northeastern region (out of 36 projects nationwide). Activities focused on extracting lessons learned, exchanging technological knowledge, and verifying the real-world impact of utilizing technology to solve local economic challenges.
Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships
The successful execution of this regional research drive was anchored in robust national integration and multi-stakeholder partnerships. The operational core was led by Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (as the primary grant recipient and project manager) in co-hosting collaboration with Udon Thani Rajabhat University (as the regional host). The initiative was heavily backed by research funding from the Program Management Unit for Area-based Development (PMU-A). Furthermore, it synergized efforts with a massive network of 19 Rajabhat Universities nationwide, working collectively to integrate knowledge aimed at eradicating grassroots poverty.
Project Outputs
As a direct outcome of these operations, 8 regional area-based research projects in the Northeast were comprehensively evaluated and documented for lessons learned. Moreover, the project produced clear operational guidelines and recommendations for scaling appropriate technologies directly into community applications. Ultimately, it strengthened a nationwide network of researchers equipped to apply scientific innovations to concretely resolve household debt and elevate target community incomes in Nong Han and Kut Chap districts.
Outcomes
The project aims for comprehensive outcomes across 2 key dimensions:
- SDG 1 (No Poverty): Focuses directly on poverty alleviation and reducing economic disparity by scaling applied research and "Appropriate Technology." This empowers local communities by upgrading income streams, creating sustainable livelihoods, and fortifying the grassroots economy as a primary mechanism to solve household debt.
- SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Fosters a powerful, multi-tiered national partnership linking a funding agency (PMU-A), the lead project university (NSTRU), the regional host (UDRU), and a collaborative academic network of 19 Rajabhat Universities nationwide. This alliance effectively shares resources, technological knowledge, and jointly drives area-based research policies for sustainable community development.
